The University of California, Merced commissioned WhiteClouds to create a dimensional foam display for campus events. The finished set combines the large UC Merced letters with the university's split-color M symbol, giving students and event organizers a physical brand element that can be used in group photographs and event settings.
Five-foot letters with a twelve-inch profile
At five feet tall, the letters are large enough to stand beside groups of people rather than functioning as conventional wall signage. The twelve-inch depth gives each character a visible side profile and allows the wordmark to read as a set of solid forms.
The letters and M symbol form a coordinated display. Their white faces, blue sides, and blue-and-gold logo preserve the university identity while keeping the individual forms distinct outdoors.
A campus display designed for repeated event settings
UC Merced uses the display at college events. Students can stand behind and between the forms for group photographs without hiding the university name.
Because the display is used in more than one event context, the complete arrangement matters as much as any single letter. Spacing, orientation, and a clear front viewing side keep the wordmark and logo legible when the set is installed.
Planning a dimensional campus logo
A comparable project should begin with approved vector artwork, exact colors, target letter height and depth, expected indoor or outdoor use, floor conditions, access dimensions, storage plans, and the number of moves anticipated. Those decisions establish the display format before finishing and support requirements are finalized.
This completed project demonstrates WhiteClouds' ability to turn a university wordmark and symbol into a coordinated physical logo display while retaining the original identity at a much larger scale.
