WhiteClouds was asked to recreate the Road Runner's head and neck for the air scoop of a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner. The custom hood ornament was hand-sculpted from two-pound expanded polystyrene foam, protected with a polymer hard coating, sanded, and finished with automotive-grade paint. The finished Road Runner sculpture was mounted on the Plymouth.
Matching a character subject to a namesake car
The Road Runner character sits on the Plymouth model that shares its name. WhiteClouds focused on the head and long neck so the compact sculpture could rise from the air scoop and stay identifiable from the front and side.
Mounting the sculpture above the air scoop ties the Road Runner character directly to the Plymouth. The elongated beak, crest, and neck capture the Road Runner's familiar profile.
A custom focal point mounted above the air scoop
The exaggerated head and neck turn the front of the Plymouth into a character-driven focal point. The sculpture sits centered over the hood and aligned with the vehicle's air scoop.
