PROJECT STORY

Interactive Kidney Foundation Flower Display

WhiteClouds built this paired kidney-form display for T3 Expo, allowing Kidney Foundation trade show attendees to insert flowers into openings across the sculpted surfaces.

Flowers inserted into openings

This T3 Expo project used two oversized kidney forms as a participatory trade show display for the Kidney Foundation. WhiteClouds built openings across both surfaces so attendees could add individual flowers during the event.

Before participation

The kidney forms prepared with a field of openings

Before flowers were added, the paired white forms showed the interaction clearly. Evenly distributed openings covered each kidney, while teal connecting forms and a circular platform held the two sides in one freestanding composition.

A round sign between the forms identified the activity. The open pattern made the intended action legible without adding a separate object for each participant.

During the event

Flowers changed the visible surface of the display

As attendees inserted blue and white flowers, the structure began to fill during the event. The kidney outlines remain visible around the edges while the flower stems occupy the prepared holes.

During the event, the paired display changed from an unfilled perforated surface to one densely covered with flowers.

Participation design

Specifying a display that changes through guest input

The fabrication brief should define the object or symbol, contribution item, number and spacing of openings, guest reach, replenishment plan, branding, overall footprint, and how the display will look at the beginning and end of use.

Venue access, supervision, base stability, installation time, destination, and event schedule help determine the practical display format.
