PROJECT IDEAS

Planning a Custom I Heart Foam Letter Display

An I Heart display combines a short phrase, a heart symbol, and a name, place, or logo in one dimensional composition. The wording, proportions, footprint, viewing distance, and support plan should be resolved together so the complete message reads as a single display.

MESSAGE AND LAYOUT

Build the heart into the wording

Start with the exact phrase as it should appear, including capitalization, abbreviations, punctuation, and line breaks. The heart may replace the word love, sit between an I and a name, or function as part of a logo. That role should be clear in the initial artwork so the symbol is sized as part of the message rather than added after the letters are arranged.

A heart does not occupy space like a typical letter. Its width, point, rounded upper lobes, and visual weight affect the spacing on both sides. Compare the heart with the tallest letters and test the full phrase as one silhouette. The message should remain legible from the expected approach, not only in a close view.

ARRANGEMENT

Choose a composition that fits the phrase and the site

The same wording can read very differently in a straight line, a stacked group, or a logo-like arrangement.

Single line

A horizontal layout follows a familiar reading order and works best when the available wall or floor width can accommodate the complete phrase.

Stacked message

Placing the I, heart, and name on separate levels reduces width and can create a compact photo setting. Alignment between rows should be intentional.

Integrated logo

A place name, initials, or brand mark can share the composition with the heart. Define which element should lead and which details must remain readable at a distance.

Freestanding group

Separate letters and symbols can be arranged as one display, but their bases, spacing, and final order need to be planned for the installation area.

COMPLETED EXAMPLES

Compare three WhiteClouds I Heart display layouts

The Gainesville display combines a heart with a compact place abbreviation and a supporting word. The I-heart-GMO and I-heart-AXO projects use stacked arrangements with different proportions and graphic treatments. Together, they show how the same basic format can be adapted without losing the reading order.

SCALE AND PLACEMENT

Plan dimensions around how the display will be seen

Overall height is only one part of the size decision. Establish the maximum width, depth, and floor area as well as the preferred letter height. A display intended for group photographs needs enough room for people without covering the phrase, while a display viewed across an event space may need simpler shapes and stronger contrast.

State whether the installation is indoors, under cover, or exposed outdoors, and whether it is temporary or intended for a longer placement. Also identify the access route, setup area, normal viewing sides, and whether the letters will be moved or reused. Those conditions can affect later decisions about presentation, support, finish, divisions, and handling.

VISUAL DIRECTION

Resolve color, depth, and presentation as one system

The heart, letters, and any supporting graphics should feel related even when they use different colors or surface treatments.

Color hierarchy

Choose whether the heart should contrast with the letters or share the same palette. Include exact brand colors when matching matters.

Face graphics

Printed graphics, patterns, greenery, or other visible treatments may be considered when they support the message. Supply clear artwork and mark which faces receive graphics.

Depth and sides

Depth changes the side view and the physical footprint. Identify whether visitors will see only the front or move around the display.

Lighting

If illumination belongs in the concept, describe the desired effect, operating location, viewing conditions, and available power rather than assuming a standard lighting approach.

STARTING INFORMATION

What to provide for an initial quote

A rough layout can begin the discussion, but measurable site and display details make the first estimate more useful.

  • Exact wording, capitalization, and reading order
  • Heart shape and its position within the phrase
  • Logo files, fonts, colors, and graphic artwork
  • Preferred height, maximum width, depth, and footprint
  • Primary viewing distance and important viewing sides
  • Freestanding, based, or mounted presentation
  • Indoor, covered, or outdoor placement and display duration
  • Access limits, movement or reuse needs, destination, and required date
  • Any lighting request and available power information
