For Miguel Cabrera's retirement, WhiteClouds fabricated an eight-foot-tall sculpture of his number 24 from approximately 3,000 baseballs. Five hundred of the balls received a gold appearance, creating a second layer within the white-ball structure before the piece moved to permanent display at Comerica Park.
Baseballs define both the surface and the numbers
The sculpture relies on repeated baseballs rather than a smooth outer skin. Curving seams and slight changes in orientation remain visible across the faces and sides, so the material can be recognized even when the separate balls form large block numerals.
Using roughly 3,000 balls gives the 2 and 4 enough thickness to read as freestanding dimensional objects. The open spaces inside each numeral remain clear within the dense repeated pattern.
Five hundred baseballs woven through the white field
The 500 gold baseballs are distributed through the sculpture rather than confined to a single panel. Their placement creates changing clusters across the front and side views while leaving the overall number readable.
That arrangement connects the commemorative finish to the actual construction material. It also gives the surface variation without adding an unrelated graphic layer over the baseballs.
Built for the retirement ceremony and Comerica Park
The number 24 was created for Miguel Cabrera's retirement and is permanently displayed at Comerica Park.
For a comparable commemorative prop, the numeral or mark, target size, authentic object count, finish pattern, support and display conditions, access route, destination, and installation schedule should be defined together.
